BIOGRAPHY
– R. Brad von Gillern –
Born in Lincoln, Brad and his family moved to Omaha when he was an infant. He attended Omaha Public Schools and graduated from Burke High School in 1978 before attending the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Construction Management Engineering.
After several years working in the construction industry across the country, he returned home to Omaha in 1991 to accept a Project Management role with Lueder Construction – a 140-year-old commercial building contractor. Returning to their hometown was a pivotal moment for Brad and his family as he and Mary knew that Omaha was the place they wanted to raise their four young children.
Advancing in the Lueder organization quickly, Brad accepted the role of Executive Vice President, and then was named President in 2000. He acquired majority ownership in 2006. He served as President, and then CEO until 2021, when he sold the remaining interest in the business to his leadership team as part of a strategic business transition. Brad left Lueder after being elected to the Nebraska Unicameral representing Legislative District Four, in 2022.
In addition to representing District Four in the Legislature, Brad has served the community in many ways, including:
Brad was elected to the Unicameral in November of 2022 and sworn in the following January. In his first two years, he served as Vice-Chair of the Revenue Committee, Chair of the Building and Maintenance Committee, and member of the Banking, Insurance and Commerce Committee. He sponsored and passed multiple significant bills, related to tax reduction, public safety, and business growth.
Brad married his high school sweetheart, Mary, in 1981. They have four adult children and seven grandchildren living in Nebraska and Arizona.
When asked why he chose to run for reelection to the Nebraska Legislature, Brad replied: “While my first term was productive and beneficial to Nebraskans, much work remains. We cut taxes several times, but they are still too high, and the cost of living continues to increase. It’s important we get these issues under control for Nebraska families and businesses to thrive.”
